About Dr. Kaag

Gillian Kaag, PhD

Licensed Psychologist and Owner

As a psychologist, I partner with clients to help them heal from raw emotional pain, recognize their inner strengths, and build resiliency in the face of life’s biggest challenges. My style is one that is warm and nurturing while also direct and honest. If you’re feeling stuck, not good enough, lonely, overwhelmed, devastated, or ashamed, you are not alone. I have dedicated my career to learning gold standard treatments to ensure that when clients have the courage to reach out for help, I am able to offer treatment interventions that they can trust will make a difference.

I can help you:

- Assess whether the way you are evaluating yourself, your relationships, and the world is fair and balanced,

- Identify and recognize the patterns of thinking, behavior, and communicating that may have worked in the past but are no longer working for you,

- Develop the insight and motivation to create the change you need to feel better, and

- Align your choices, actions, and behaviors with your core values.

About Dr. Kaag

I am a licensed psychologist who graduated with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Miami University in Oxford, OH and a BA from Middlebury College in VT. I have built my career around developing deep expertise and experience in traumatic stress, depression, and relationship problems.

Since 2005, I have been fortunate to work with individuals across the lifespan in a number of clinical settings. Prior to opening my own practice in 2019, I was the clinic director for the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Center where I led the start-up of the clinic and provided evidenced based treatments for veterans and their families. I also served as the assistant director of clinical services and trauma response at the University of Denver’s Health and Counseling Center, leading the university’s trauma prevention and response for sexual assault and gender violence. I have served as the team lead for a comprehensive DBT program at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis where I led the assessment and management of risk for the outpatient program. Other clinical training and employment opportunities have included work at an academic medical center, university counseling center, children’s residential treatment center, and community mental health.

In addition to my clinical focus, I enjoy serving community around broader prevention efforts. Previously, I was elected to serve as the President of the Board of Directors for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Colorado Chapter, whose mission is to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. I also served on the state steering committee for the CDC’s Domestic Violence Enhancement and Leadership through Alliances (DELTA) program in North Carolina, focusing on preventing intimate partner violence.

On a personal note, I am a married mother of two children and love spending time with my family. For self-care, I enjoy running, skiing, yoga, and practicing mindfulness and gratitude. I also am a dual Irish citizen and have a fondness for Irish culture and community.
